While you prepare for your next step in life, now is your chance to soak up the last bits of Athens charm before you go. Here are four must-see spots near UNCOMMON Auburn to see before you graduate.
The Georgia Museum of Art
If you haven’t had a chance to explore Athens or the almost 8,000 pieces at The Georgia Museum of Art, now is the time! The museum is located on campus, so it’s easy to find, but does take some time to peruse. Make sure you fully experience the art, history, and campus before you leave Athens after graduation.
Watson Mill Bridge State Park
You need to visit the Watson Mill Bridge State Park, located about a half hour out of town, if you’re looking for new adventures. The park features the longest covered bridge in the state, making for a photo-worthy shot with a wooded backdrop and river.
Bear Hollow Zoo
Bear Hollow Zoo is a free zoo that highlights Georgia’s native wildlife, located near downtown Athens. All of the animals that live at the center are rescues that cannot be returned to the wild. It’s a small facility, but a great place to walk and be surrounded by the outdoors while learning more about the local wildlife.
Kayaking the Middle Oconee
The Middle Oconee River is a must-do activity if you’re looking for things to do in Athens before you graduate. You can stop by Big Dogs on the River to rent a kayak and hit the water. Paddle the 3.5-mile river trail to experience the city from a different perspective as you ride the waterways south through Athens. There’s more to see and enjoy close to the University of Georgia. Check out the UNCOMMON Auburn blog for more neighborhood highlights and events.
